The father of a good friend of ours used to run radio broadcasts on 2KY and yesterday I was shown the transcript of some of those broadcasts from 1975. I was touched by his account of God’s miraculous healing of his son and our friend’s identical twin brother from a life threatening disease. I now share, with kind permission, the words of Prof. Mervyn T. Judge.
“Let me tell you this true story. A story of 2 parents who, this week, travelled the terrible road towards hell, when their son – a young man on the threshold of a wonderful, purposeful life – without the slightest warning – collapsed into unconsciousness. Two hospitals, physicians and specialists laboured throughout the night to deal with the disease.
“Honour a physician with the honour due unto him for the uses which ye may have of him: for the Lord hath created him. For of the most High cometh healing, and he shall receive honour of the king. The Lord hath created medicines out of the earth; and he that is wise will not abhor them.
With such doth he heal men, and taketh away their pains. My son, in thy sickness be not negligent: but pray unto the Lord, and he will make thee whole.” (Ecclesiasticus 38:1,2,4,7,9 KJV).
The most deadly of all brain viruses had struck: Herpes Simplex, for which medical science has no answer. We faced the drama of doctors, nurses and pathologists, racing against time to isolate this dreaded virus that was viciously devastating to the delicate brain.
The patient failed to respond to any of the medications given. When the doctors eventually pronounced a verdict of “no hope” and pointed to a merciful death, sanity replaced the hopeless fear that had previously prevailed in the minds of the parents.
Friends, brothers, sisters and congregations with the parents engaged in fervent prayer to Almighty God, guided by these words:
“Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer” (Matthew 21:21-22).
“Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete” (John 16:24).
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matt. 7:7-8,11).
“He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave”(Psa. 107:20).
There was not a shadow of a doubt in the minds of the suppliants as they prayed, and with the same sure faith, thanks was given, then and there, that this young man’s complete renewal of health and strength had already begun.
A sign was asked for, “just a flicker of an eyelid,” that it might be confirmed that renewed life had been given.
This sign was given – from unconsciousness – his eyelid flickered and we knew that God had heard the prayer of faith and had graciously acknowledged it. HOW BIG IS GOD!
Since that moment the patient has progressed from strength to strength. THIS IS GOD IN ACTION! How mighty thou art!
Undoubtedly, the faith that DARES accomplishes much, because the faith is rooted in the immutable promises of God which bear the seal of Jesus’ sacrifice on Calvary.”
