15 Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound!
They walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance.
16 In Your name they rejoice all day long,
And in Your righteousness they are exalted. (Psa.89:15-16)
I’ve spent a lifetime thinking that you hear the ‘joyful sound’ when you hear the Gospel. I was wrong! The words actually refer to the trumpet-blasts that proclaimed that God was present.
I was recently at a retreat and was aware of the heavenly trumpet blasts announcing the presence of God but I had no idea of the implications of what that meant until I pondered Psa. 89:15-16.
The sense of God’s presence brings light into our lives, puts peace into our hearts, illuminates our paths and makes life worth living. When we rejoice in His name, we are filled with a joy that sustains us throughout the day, throughout the year, throughout our life. There is something truly incredible about being aware of the trumpet blasts that herald the king of kings into our worshipping spirits and carrying that melody from the hidden musicians in our hearts throughout our day.
As we walk in the light of God’s countenance. God’s face shines on us and His favour, lovingkindness and grace are upon us (Num. 6:24-26). Walking daily under the consciousness of God’s presence and being involved in active conversation and silent worship as we go about our lives brings us into that realm of joy, even in the midst of troubles and distress.
Let’s embrace the ‘joyful sound’ that comes from worshipping and being in the presence of God. Let’s walk daily in the light of His countenance, rejoicing in His name and basking in His righteousness. Let’s allow His love and grace to fill us with overwhelming joy that sustains us through every moment of our lives.
Let’s live with a mindset of joy and gratitude, and let’s reflect God’s light, spreading love and hope to those around us. Let’s choose joy today and every day, knowing that as we walk in the light of God’s countenance, we are blessed beyond measure.
