In the Bible God has been given various titles and today I want to look at one of these, Yahweh Ropheka, “the LORD who heals” (Ex. 15:26). The Hebrew word “rophe” means to “heal”, “cure”, “restore” “make whole”. It, or a derivation of this word, is mainly used to refer to physical healing but can also be used to refer to healing the whole person, mind and soul or even healing from sin as the cause of illness.
Since God has ascribed one of His functions into His name, we know that God has committed Himself to our healing. Let’s look more closely at what God said about Himself:
“He (Moses) said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the LORD who heals you” (Ex. 15:26).
Israel had just been released from Egyptian slavery and at the beginning of their journey to the land of Israel God promised to provide for their physical health – sickness, injury, weakness and instability. All the people of Israel had to do was keep God’s commands and decrees.
If you are a follower of Jesus and keep His commands, then you, too, can call God your healer. Ask God to increase your faith in His healing power and pray for God to heal people, mind, body and soul.
I am an ordinary person who believes in Jesus and His healing power. I have prayed for many people and seen so many people healed, some instantly and some over a space of time. I urge you to take God at His word that He is our healer and go and pray for people to be healed in mind, body or soul. Pray with them face to face and pray for them from a distance – God will hear all your prayers.
Be like Abraham!
“Then Abraham prayed, asking God to cure the king and queen and the other women of the household, so that they could have children” (Gen. 20:17).
Be like Moses!
“And Moses cried out to the Lord, “Heal her, O God, I beg you!” (Num. 12:13).
Be like Hezekiah!
“Go back to Hezekiah, the leader of my people, and tell him that the Lord God of his ancestor David has heard his prayer and seen his tears. I will heal him, and three days from now he will be out of bed and at the Temple!” (2 Kings 20:5).
Be like David!
“O Lord my God, I pleaded with you, and you gave me my health again” (Psa. 30:2).
Be like Jeremiah!
“Lord, you alone can heal me, you alone can save, and my praises are for you alone” (Jer. 17:14).
Whatever afflicts you today, or whatever afflicts your family or friend, God is waiting for you to call out to Him in faith. Remember, “Anything is possible if you have faith” (Mark 9:23).
