Letter 3 to my friend with cancer

“Canker” is the old English word for “cancer” It’s derived from the Greek Καρκίνος (Karkinos) and is actually how “cancer” was pronounced in ancient Latin and even in English until pretty recent times.

So it was with interest that I read this promise in Joel about the “canker worm”.

And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. (Joel 2:25).

God’s promise to you today is that He will restore the time that has been lost with this cancer!

Straight after that promise in Joel we read the familiar words:

27 Then you will know that I am in Israel,
 that I am the Lord your God,
 and that there is no other;
 never again will my people be shamed.

28 “And afterward,
 I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
    your old men will dream dreams,
 your young men will see visions.

29 Even on my servants, both men and women,
 I will pour out my Spirit in those days.

30  I will show wonders in the heavens
 and on the earth,
 blood and fire and billows of smoke.

31  The sun will be turned to darkness
  and the moon to blood
  before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

32  And everyone who calls
  on the name of the Lord will be saved;
for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem
  there will be deliverance,
 as the Lord has said,
even among the survivors
  whom the Lord calls.

So that promised healing from “canker” is all part and parcel of what we were promised would be a part of the last days when God’s spirit would be poured out on the earth!

Peter quoted these very words and THEN went on to declare:

Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call (Acts 2:38-39).

The gift of the Holy Spirit and therefore your healing is a PROMISE to ALL who God calls. God SAVES, (the word in BOTH Hebrew and Greek encompasses “making whole in mind, body and spirit”), whoever calls on the name of the LORD (Joel 2:32).

I’m praying right now for you to be healed at this moment and your proposed future treatments necessarily terminated! God will be glorified when this canker worm is destroyed and He repays you for all the wasted fussing and time.
