No shadow of turning with God and what that means for you

Updated: Feb 6, 2023

Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. (James 1:17).

I woke this morning with this verse in my mind, and, in particular, that there is no shadow of turning with God. Just think about it.

There are no grey areas with God. What He has said stands the test of time, over and over and over.

So when He says He is our Provider, He is our Provider, yesterday, today and forever.

When He says He’s the Saviour of our mind, body and soul, He is our Saviour, yesterday, today and forever.

When He says He is our Healer, He is our Healer, yesterday, today and forever.

Let’s tease that last one out a bit.

It means that He doesn’t heal by halves. He doesn’t say He will heal this one who trusts in Him and not that one. He doesn’t heal today and then let you succumb again to your physical or mental affliction. He doesn’t say He will heal you and then not heal you.

When Jesus said that His crucifixion would take our sins and that His scourging would take our physical and emotional afflictions, that’s just what He did. Read the words:

But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed” (Isa. 53:5).

There’s no changeableness in that. There are no vague and obscure areas. No caveats. No ifs and no maybes.

All you have to do is ask. Ask Him to save you! Ask to be healed!

Once you’ve asked, believe that your healing is coming. Trust that He is faithful no matter what your afflictions look like. No matter how much pain you’re enduring.

That’s exactly what a Fijian Indian lady was telling me on the weekend. An aunt had appealed to all her Hindu gods and for Hindu intercession to no avail and right at death’s door, and in final despair, she relented, swallowed her pride and asked her Christian brother to pray for her.

A week later she was clearly fully recovered and, as a result, her entire family discarded their ineffective gods and became Christians.

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father

There is no shadow of turning with Thee

Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not

As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.
