Using the word of God to overcome the power of the enemy

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires (Heb. 4:12).

This is a remarkable passage in the Bible. It informs us that the revelation of God, preserved in the Bible, is a living power for ever. It is all- powerful, executes vengeance and penetrates all things. The writer is telling us that we have power and authority from the word of God to use against our vicious enemy who lurks around looking for someone to devour (I Pet. 5:8).

This simply means that you would be wise to be so familiar with the living word of God so that when problems come upon you, you can confess the promise from the word of God over that situation. The word of God is the sword of the Spirit (Eph. 6:17) that you use to fight the enemy. It is the word of your testimony with which you overcome the kingdom of darkness (Rev. 12:11).

Let’s give an example. Let’s assume you are worried about memory loss and problems with the way your brain works. Rather than speaking negatively over your situation, you declare, “I have the mind of Christ and I can organise all I have to do in my day”. Rather than say, “I can’t work out how to do this” you say, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.

Rather than saying you are confused, say, ”I renounce a spirit of confusion and release the Spirit of power, love and a sound mind”. If you have heard that your brain has abnormalities, declare, “My left side of my brain is recreated and all its functions are operating as they were designed to do”.

For how long do you keep on doing this? When do you give up and resign yourself to your failing brain?

You keep going until you see the desires of your heart (Psa. 37:4). Remember, that when even Jesus was being tempted by Satan, Satan didn’t immediately relent and leave. Satan kept it up until he temporarily scuttled away: When the devil had finished tempting Jesus, he left him until the next opportunity came (Luke 4:13). (By the way, note how Jesus used the Word of God to defeat all of Satan's attacks).

Jesus has cleared the path for you to use this explosive miracle working power. You have been raised from a dead state of existence, along with Christ, and you’ve been seated with him in the heavenly realms because you are united with Him (Eph. 2:6).

Use God’s word in your particular situation and remember to give all praise and appreciation to our gracious Saviour.
