Worshipping stars

Recently I overheard 2 people discussing their nakshatra, or birth star, which is said to govern the realities, feelings and experiences of an individual. I won’t go into how they perceived the influence of stars on the human mind and their use of star-stone crystals to channel energy from the stars —-but I will say that this fascination and reverencing of stars is an ancient practice that was condemned by God.

Stephen gave a speech before he was stoned and in it he related how Israel had miserably denied God and worshipped a golden calf so God altogether abandoned them to go the whole way and worship the stars:

God turned away from them and abandoned them to serve the stars of heaven as their gods! In the book of the prophets it is written,

‘Was it to me you were bringing sacrifices and offerings    during those forty years in the wilderness, Israel?

No, you carried your pagan gods—    the shrine of Molech,    the star of your god Rephan,    and the images you made to worship them. So I will send you into exile    as far away as Babylon.’” (Acts 7:42-43).

Worshipping stars did not end well for the Israelites and it won’t end well for people in this day and age.

The sinful fascination with stars and astrology is so relevant to all generations that Jesus referred to the practice in the last chapter of the last book in the Bible. Jesus condemns to exile all those who practise sorcery, worship objects and engage in astrology;  and then, to put the record firmly and clearly before all readers, Jesus refers to Himself as the “Bright and Morning Star!” (Rev. 22:15-16).

Jesus is the only Star we need ever consider for He is a Star whose words carry a blessing  if they are heeded (Rev. 1:3).

In 1428 BC it was said of Jesus:

A star will rise from Jacob;

    a scepter will emerge from Israel.

It will crush the heads of Moab’s people,

    cracking the skulls of the people of Sheth.”(Num. 24:17).

Choosing the Moabite or Shethite stars or choosing the Bright and Morning Star to worship is up to you. Both have eternal implications.
