When you woke this morning, did you realise that you were SURROUNDED? The reality is that God’s presence surrounds you every minute of every day for eternity.
Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people, both now and forever (Psa. 125:2)
and again:
You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head (Psalm 139:5).
His love is steadfast and unchanging as it surrounds us day after day:
“Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD, for our hope is in you alone” (Psa.33:22).
God’s angel surrounds us wherever we go and defends us.
For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him (Psa. 34:7).
We have the Presence of God with us at all times in the person of the Holy Spirit. We have an ever-present comforter, companion and adviser in every thing we set about to do. We are a blessed generation.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you (2 Tim. 1:14).
We have the physical presence of God living within us and His angel surrounding us. There are also the records of the lives and the testimonies of saints who have gone before us that surround us.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us (Heb. 12:1).
Paul then adds the way in which we keep ourselves grounded in the love of God as we press on to the day when we will behold God face to face:
We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honour beside God’s throne (Heb. 12:2).
What a blessed life we have and what a wonderful future awaits us - surrounded now and forever by the love, mercy, kindness and goodness of God. Our worries, traumas and pains pale beside the light of this tremendous revelation. The key to that blessed life is simply to keep your eyes on Jesus.
